‘Elephant Corridor’ purchased at over Rs. 1 billion by Browns Hotels and Resorts

Sri Lanka’s one- time costliest hotel “Elephant Corridor ”, Sigiriya, will become Browns Hotels and Resort’s latest addition to their chain of hotels and resorts. The latter will be investing over Rs 1 billion for the purchase and refurbishment of the property, Browns Hotels and Resorts’ Group General Manager Eksath Wijeratne said.

“The hotel was initially run and owned by Sierra Group and we have acquired it from them. The hotel will be ready by the end of the year, which is now being refurbished at a cost of Rs 500 million, Wijerate told The Island Financial Review.

“Once the hotel refurbishment work is completed towards the end of the year, we will quote US $ 250 per day in this small, luxury, designer – lifestyle hotel in the heart of Sri Lanka, he said

The Elephant Corridor Hotel, which is built on 200 acres of unfenced jungle land, borders a teak forest and a lake. There is a breath-taking view of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, which lies in the background, informed sources said.

The Elephant Corridor is located in the middle of the country. Elephant Corridor hotel is considered a fine base to explore the ruins of the ancient and medieval cities of Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Kandy, these sources explained.

Wijeratne added: “You could also visit the National Parks to watch elephants. This designer lifestyle hotel is without doubt one of the best small boutique hotels in the area.

“The company is now in the process of acquiring new hotels and resorts because the company noticed that there is a huge potential in Sri Lanka’s travel and tourism sector in the future. Government sources confirmed that tourist arrivals could reach more than two million.”
