Court stops President from nominating judges to SC
The Supreme Court has issued an interim stay order preventing President Ranil Wickremesinghe from nominating judges to the Supreme Court.
The court has also blocked the Constitutional Council from nominating judges to the Supreme Court, except as Chief Justice.
The interim order was issued in response to a petition submitted by a lawyer.
The lawyer challenged the decision taken by the Constituent Council to reject the nomination submitted by the President to appoint Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne as a Supreme Court Judge. (Colombo Gazette)
