We condemn the opinion of Chinese Ambassador who supports the genocides: Jaffna University Stude...

The Jaffna University Students’ Union has issued a statement saying that they have strongly condemned the comments made in support of Sri Lanka and defaming the affected Tamil community.

The Jaffna University Students’ Union strongly condemns the comments made by the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka in connection with the UN Human Rights Council session to be held in Geneva, in support of Sri Lanka and the victimized Tamil community regarding accountability for the war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the Sri Lankan government against the Tamil community in Sri Lanka.

China is well aware of the suffering Tamils suffered during the ethnic war waged by the Sri Lankan government.

According to the UN report, more than 70,000 Tamils were killed and hundreds of Tamil women and girls were raped by the Sri Lankan armed forces during the last six months of the ethnic war alone.

Thousands of Tamils, including more than 29 children, went missing. According to the United Kingdom’s Foreign Office, more than 90,000 Tamil war widows continue to face enormous suffering in Tamil areas.

Even after the end of the war, lakhs of Sri Lankan soldiers are occupying our motherland in the North East Tamil areas.

After the war, our native lands were confiscated to settle Sinhalese Buddhists to make us a minority in our traditional homeland.

Our only hope is to seek justice at the UN Human Rights Council by taking Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Only yesterday Tamil parliamentarians, political parties, religious leaders, families of the disappeared, civil society, trade unions and we collectively sent a letter to the UN Human Rights Council to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court.

On the same day that the Tamils unitedly sent a letter urging the UN Commission on Human Rights to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court, the Chinese ambassador ruled in support of Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council.

In the United Nations Human Rights Council, many countries including England, India, America and Germany are working together in support of the Tamil people, the opinion of the Chinese Embassy is a warning to the Sri Lankan government to strengthen its dominance in Sri Lanka. We strongly condemn the growing dominance of China in the North-East, which has an anti-Tamil attitude.

We Tamils, who have suffered for decades, are deeply saddened by this irresponsible rant by the Chinese Ambassador and strongly condemn it. This act is “like a cow treading on one who fell from a tree.”

We therefore urge the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka to retract the content he posted on Twitter and to support our call to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court at the upcoming UN Human Rights Council session.

The Chinese ambassador visited the Tamil areas and offered sincere assistance. We raise the question. We suspect that your visit to Nallur Murugan Temple in traditional Tamil attire is an act of deceiving Tamils.

We expect you to act as a responsible country and we ask you not to fish in our muddled pond and take advantage of our distress.

Once again, we as the Jaffna University Tamil Students’ Union appeal to the Chinese Ambassador to withdraw his letter and support our call to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court.

It has been said that they should not support those who killed Tamils and those who raped Tamil women and they should not try to distract the allied countries who are voicing for the Tamil people in the UN.
