Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige, who is currently in remand custody after being detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, has called on people to continue their stuggle to win their rights. In an open letter for the New Year, Mudalige has said that the expectations of the people’s struggle have not been fulfilled yet.

Noting that the Aragalaya or struggle expected a society with economic equity, democratic reforms that are directly related to people’s governance as well as the political and economic policy that is responsible for society and the environment, Mudalige has said they have not been fulfilled as the current ‘Ranil-Rajapaksa junta’ is carrying out the same activities the people opposed.

Mudalige said the government has launched a smear campaign against protesters.

“However, in the midst of all this, we urge people not to allow those allegations and complaints to undermine the value of the people’s struggle. This is the most successful struggle in the history of our country that we all did together. This is just the beginning of the struggle. It is not over yet,” he has said.

Mudalige has said the rulers want to prevent the struggle achieving its goal.

“But with its achievements, the struggle must be continued until a victory is achieved.
