Sri Lanka Women lose crunch game to Australia Women by 10 wkts

Sri Lanka Women were beaten by reigning champions Australia by 10 wickets in their crucial Group 1 match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 on Thursday at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, South Africa. The Lankan lasses batting first scored 112 in the allotted 20 overs with Harshitha Madavi Samarawickrama top scoring with 34 off 40 balls inclusive of 3 boundaries. Skipper Chamari Athapaththuu fell for 16 while Vishmi Gunaratne contributed 24 off 33. The Lankans were undone for spin with the Aussie attack well spearheaded by Megan Schutt who claimed 4 for 24 and Grace Harris 2 for 7.

Australia Women romped to victory reaching 113 with both openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney unbeaten on 54 off 43 and 56 respectively. Healy took the Player of the Match for her 43-ball knock containing 6 boundaries and a six while Mooney’s 53-ball innings contained 7 boundaries.
