Jaffna fight back 219/5 after restricting Galle to 258

Jaffna atoned for their first innings 130 debacle scoring 219 for 5 in the second innings to lead by 91 having done well to dismiss Galle, who were sitting pretty on an overnight 193 for 4, for 258 on the second day of their Sri Lanka Cricket National Super League 2023 encounter at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on Friday. It was a creditable effort by Jaffna’s bowlers spearheaded by Shashika Dulshan’s 4-wicket burst in claiming Galle’s last six wickets for 65.runs.

Dulshan, the 22-year old left arm orthodox product from St. Servatius College. Matara started the second day on a high picking four of the six wickets to fall at a personal cost of 37 runs to bring back his side into the game.

Galle’s Sohan de Livera who was on an overnight 105 ran out of partners in going on to make 143 off 218 balls hitting 15 boundaries Jaffna’s second innings was anchored by opening batsman Ron Chandraguptha who stroked 86 off 169.balls crossing the boundary eight times and Avishka Tharindu who was unbeaten on 62 off 114 hitting 8 boundaries Janith Liyanage contributed a run a ball 40 striking 4 boundaries.
