The adventure trail ‘Raid Amazones 2023’ kicked off in Kandy this week.

Nearly 250 female athletes from France are participating in the trail in Sri Lanka’s hill capital. Raid Amazones is the world’s only itinerant women’s adventure race and SriLankan Airlines is the Presenting Partner of the event.

The French group participated in a trail running race from Hanthane to Galaha on Wednesday, covering 11 kilometers in between.

Yesterday (23 March), the participants had a blast canoeing across the enchanting waters of Lake Victoria. The group will run, bike and canoe in the days leading up to the grand finale on 28 March, chalking up a distance of over 70 kilometers of ground and water terrain.

The thrill of adventure is not the only draw for the French women, however, as each evening following the day’s trail, they will get a glimpse of the local culture and traditions through food, sport and recreation.
