Govt help sought to rescue 14 Lankans stranded in Myanmar
Sri Lanka has requested Myanmar to repatriate a group of 14 Sri Lankans stranded there. Ambassador Janaka Bandara took up this issue with Foreign Minister of Myanmar U Than Swe recently when they met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
Authoritative sources said that Ambassador Bandara had briefed Foreign Minister on the plight of fourteen Sri Lankans who were victims of human trafficking stranded in Myanmar. The Ambassador has requested the Minister to intervene in the matter immediately, and take appropriate actions to rescue the victims through the Myanmar authorities.
The Foreign Minister of Myanmar took up the matter of serious concern and assured the Ambassador that the victims would be rescued through the relevant authorities very soon.The Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Myanmar and the Director General Consular Affairs also attended this meeting.
