Captain Edwards, Nidamanuru help Netherlands secure first points

The Netherlands secured their first points with a comprehensive five-wicket victory over the USA.

Opting to field first, Netherlands struck through Ryan Klein and Logan van Beek in the powerplay and maintained that head start right through the game. Shayan Jahangir (71) showcased resilience and reached a well-deserved fifty, receiving support from Jessy Singh who hit three sixes. Their partnership of 86 runs gave the USA hope but once they were dismissed in the space of three overs, the lower order could push the total only as far as 211/8.

In response, the Netherlands’ batters, led by Max O’Dowd and Wesley Barresi, maintained a healthy run rate upfront before a composed fifth-wicket partnership between Teja Nidamanuru and Scott Edwards swung the advantage decisively towards Netherlands. Edwards ensured victory with an unbeaten 67.

Brief scores:

United States 211/8 in 50 overs (Shayan Jahangir 71, Jessy Singh 38; Ryan Klein 2/31) lost to Netherlands 214/5 in 43.2 overs (Scott Edwards 67, Teja Nidamanuru 58; Jasdeep Singh 2/35) by five wickets.
