All 225 sitting MPs must share the blame for the present crisis: Ranatunga

- island.lk

Chief Government Whip Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament on Thursday that all 225 MPs in the House should bear the responsibility for the present plight of the country.

“All these MPs have more or less contributed towards making this mess. As such it is not right to accuse only a single government for the prevailing situation. The opposition has neither a single policy nor an objective and its modus operandi is nothing but blaming the government and finding fault with everything it does,” Ranatunga said.

He said that the government has extended its invitation to the opposition to join the government to get the country out of the present crisis.

“Instead of responding positively, it is engrossed in pushing its own political agenda.

“They blame the government when we bring down the prices of commodities and again when we increase the prices. They have no clear objective. It is wrong to apportion the blame for the present crisis on the government in power.

“This situation is the creation of all governments that have been in power since independence. More than that, all 225 MPs in this House too have contributed in some waytowards creating the present situation,” the minister said, calling on the opposition to hep improve the situation.
