Sinhalese Sports Club annexed the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Clubs 50-Over Tournament defeating Sebastianites by a comprehensive 71 runs on their home grounds on Tuesday. Batting first, SSC totaled 208 for 8 wickets off 50 overs with Krishan Sanjula leading the way with a masterly 84 off 125 balls containing 5 boundaries and a six. Sebastianites, in their turn were bowled out for 130 in 42 overs with leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya being the pick of the SSC bowlers claiming 3 wickets for 25 runs. Chamika Edirisinghe top scored for the Sebastianites with 37 off 76 hitting 5 boundaries. Krishan Sanjula’s batting feat earned him the coveted Player of the Match award.

It was a sunshine run for the SSC which dominated the 2023 year with successive titles having also had a feather in their cap by emerging joint champions along with Police SC in the long format Major Clubs Championship after the final was rained off.

For the record, SSC was in a strong position having scored 250 for 3 when the rains tripped them in the next four days.
Meanwhile, losers Sebastianites had the consolation of seeing star player Dushan Vimukthi walking away with the coveted Player of the Series award. Galle CC’s Erosh Samarasuriya took the Best Batsman award while the Best Bowler of the series was Murvin Abinash of BRC.
