Dinara, Methwan, Achinthya to fight for final spots today

ITF Junior Circuit Week I Tennis tournament

Dinara de Silva, Methvan Wijemanne and Vichinthaya Nilaweera were the last remaining local players in the ITF Junior Circuit Week I tournament as the trio secured girls and boys singles semi-final spots yesterday.

Wijemanne overcame India’s Yash Panchaxari in a two hours and 45 minutes long battle in the quarter-finals to seal his place. His winning scores read 6-2, 6-4.

Vichinthaya Nilaweera sealed his semi-final spot with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hong Kong’s Ringi Yang.

In the girls’ singles quarter-finals Dinara de Silva beat Nonoka Shimizu of Japan 6-3, 6-2.

Now the trio will do their best to secure places in their respective finals when they compete in the semis today.
