Bidding adieu with music

- island.lk

Azra Nalim Hilmy recently had a farewell party and a sing – a long at her beautiful home at Mirihana before she left to USA. Her cousin, Mumtaz Jiffry, an old boy of Ananda College, who has a passion for music kept the invitees spellbound with his melliferous voice and also lent a power packed musical punch to all those present. Although he lives in Oman with his family, he comes to Sri Lanka for his vaccation.

During his vaccation he loves to entertain. He says “I enjoy music and play the guitar Music runs in my veins and I am popular in Oman for my musical evenings with friends and Sri Lankan expatriates.’’

The musical evening was scintillating that many ladies joined him to sing and pulled all of them to the dancing floor. all of them present couldn’t resist the singing sessions. The lyrics ranged from English to Sinhala and the irresistible baila, requests from the audience added that extra zing.

The voice of some of the ladies, present were truly magical and musical. By late evening most of them both young and old were in a mood to sing and dance and the party became a rocking frenzy in no time.

It was also eventful to see some ladies crooning some old Sinhala lyrics from CT Fernando, Milton Mallawarachchi including western oldies from Jim Reeves to Englebert. The sing song session was followed by lunch and hightea. As evening fell, most of them left with a heavy heart as they bid adieu to Azra and Hilmy.
