Former S. Thomas’ College cricketer Trevor Rajaratnam passed away on Tuesday. He was 71 at the time of his death.

After his school days, Rajaratnam represented Colts Cricket Club and later went on to become a Honorary Life Member of the club.

Rajaratnam served Sri Lanka Cricket as Treasurer, Vice-President and Assistant Secretary. He was heavily involved in organizing the annual Royal – Thomian cricket encounter.

He was also the CEO of Mackinnons and was active in the travel trade for more than 50 years.

Sri Lanka’s players were wearing black armbands yesterday during the third ODI as a tribute to the former administrator.

“Trevor was one of the honest men I have come across in my life. He was always upfront and earned the respect of everyone involved in cricket. Although he was part of the system, he wouldn’t agree with all the decisions we made and always took the side of the players. He was more than a treasurer as he was a livewire in the administration. His death is a great loss for the game,” former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala said.

“Rajaratnam, who was also a former Treasurer of Sri Lanka Cricket, did a yeomen service to the game of cricket in Sri Lanka as an administrator. Sri Lanka’s cricket fraternity remains indebted to him for the valuable services he rendered for the game in the country. We wish to express our condolences to Trevor’s family, friends, and relatives at this moment of sadness,” SLC said in a statement.

Late Rajaratnam’s remains will be at A.F. Raymonds today (15th February) from 10:30 am to 6pm. Funeral service will be on Friday (16th February) at 10:30 am at new crematorium. Cortege leaves the parlour at 10:15 am.
