Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage was acquitted in a money laundering case by the Colombo High Court.

The Colombo High Court ordered that the former Minister be acquitted in the case filed against him.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP was accused of failing to declare the source of funds used to purchase a luxury house worth approximately Rs. 27 million at Kynsey Road in Borella.

The house was purchased when Aluthgamage was a Minister in the Mahinda Rajapaksa-led Government.

Indictments had been filed against Aluthgamage in 2017 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act when Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Prime Minister and Maithripala Sirisena the President. (Colombo Gazette)
