Sirisena confirms Wijeyadasa as SLFP presidential candidate

Former President Maithripala Sirisena confirmed that Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe  will be the presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Sirisena said that a majority of the SLFP members are backing Wijayadasa Rajapakshe.

The former President also said that he has already decided not to contest again for the presidency.

Maithripala Sirisena said that he had announced earlier that he will not be contesting again to be President of Sri Lanka.

The Colombo District Court recently issued an injunction order against the appointment of Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as the Acting Chairman of the SLFP.

A court order was also issued preventing former Sirisena from functioning as the Chairman of the SLFP until the ongoing case concludes.

The court also issued an order against the appointment of MP Dushmantha Mithrapala as the General Secretary of the SLFP.

Sirisena had earlier appointed Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as the Acting Chairman of  the SLFP. (Colombo Gazette)
