No more extensions for postal voting applicants – Polls Chief

The Elections Commissioner has emphasized that the deadline for the acceptance of postal voting will not be further extended.
The deadline for the receipt of applications for postal voting in elections to the North Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces was scheduled to end on Sunday. But it has already been further extended until midnight on the 19th of this month.
Elections Chief Mahinda Deshapriya pointed out that this 0deadline will not be further extended for whatever reason. All public officials who are to be deployed for election duty within the three Provinces, officers who are engaged in essential services and members of the Armed Forces, the Police and the Civil Defence Force serving in these regions are eligible to apply for postal voting. However, voters who are registered in these Provinces but are serving in other Provinces are not eligible to apply for postal voting.
The Elections Chief in a statement said that under the Provincial Council Elections Act they should secure leave to exercise their franchise
