Upper Kotmale hydro-power project declared open

The Upper Kotmale hydro power electricity project, which commissions 150 megawatts of electricity to the national grid was declared open today by President Rajapaksa.

Ambassador to Japan Nobuhito Hobo attended the opening ceremony.

An annual power capacity of 409 gigawatts is expected from the Upper Kotmale hydro-power station.

The project has the longest tunnel system in the country with a distance of 12.9 kilometres.
