President opens the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power plant

Upper Kotmale Hydro Power plant declared opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa

Sri Lankan President today declared opened the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power plant, which is the country’s last major hydro power project.

The plant adds in 150 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.

The UKHP is located in the Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka and is using using the water flowing from the Kotmale Oya, a branch of the Mahaweli Ganga to generate power.

Financing of this project was done by JICA.
