The renovation work of the Batalagoda tank in Batalagoda, Kurunegala that benefits 20,000 families has been initiated.
The renovation work of the main canal -Kimbulvana Oya that provides water from the Deduru Oya and the Batalagoda tank was launched under the patronage of Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. The Government is spending 80 million rupees in this connection. Batalagoda tank with the capacity of 2100 acre feet is being dredged and silt is being removed. The main anicut and the canals are being renovated. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva who participated in the occasion said that the canal which brings water from the stream has been constructed with the most modern technology. He said although the government is prepared for development work the obstacles also have to be removed. He said that funds have been allocated to clean the tank as a massive project is expected to be launched.
