Equality with economic growth – Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris

The External Affairs Minister has pointed out that there should be equality along with economic growth. Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris was delivering the keynote address at the Dhaka Conference.

The Minister said that it is difficult to empower society through economic development alone. He told the conference that action should be initiated to uplift society in every sector through the mediation of the Government. The Conference opened under the patronage of Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. The Sri Lankan Minister received the opportunity of delivering the keynote speech. 40 countries attended the meeting.
The Minister cited as examples programmes such as “Divi Neguma” for the flow of dividends in economic growth to most sensitive sections of society. The External Affairs Minister referred to projects mooted in Sri Lanka to upgrade civilian life in less developed areas.
After the conference, Minister G.L. Peiris met the Banglaldleshi Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni for discussions.
