Eco-revolution 2012 international conference held in Colombo
An environment conference themed ‘a fresh approach from Asia to the present environmental crisis’ got underway in Colombo.
Eco-revolution 2012 international conference started at the Foundation Institute in Colombo this morning before a large number of foreign delegates. Delegates from 20 countries including India, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Myanmar are participating in the conference that will be held for 2 days. Several sessions will be held on environment related topics. Inaugurating the conference Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the world is facing the challenge of protecting the environment amidst rapid development.
He said that 50% of the forest cover has already vanished. Crop diversity is reduced by 75%. Desertification of earth is taking place in an alarming rate. He said that the conference is timely held at a time when a challenging situation is created for the survival of human beings on this planet.
Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris, Patalie Champijka Ranawaka and many other local and foreign delegates addressed the conference.
