People in the East reject communal politics

The UPFA has achieved a massive victory in the Eastern Province defeating communalism.

According to the final result of the Eastern Province the UPFA has gained 200044 votes. It was 31.58 as a percentage while gaining 14 seats. Ilankei Thamil Arasu Kachchi that had gained 193,827 votes obtained 11 seats. It was 30.59 as a percentage. Sri Lanka Muslim Congress gained 7 seats for the 132,917 votes received. It is 20.98 as a percentage. The UNP obtained 74,901 votes. It is 11.82 as a percentage which offers them 4 seats. National Freedom Front gained one seat for the 9522 votes received. It amounts to 1.5 percent. It is a notable feature that the JVP has been unable to gain a single seat in the Eastern Province. Only 3157 votes were cast in their favour. It is less than one percent which amounts to .05 percent.
