Fire in a Pakistan garment factory kills over 60

A fire erupted in a garment factory in Pakistan’s commercial capital of Karachi has left 62 people dead, a media report said.

“The number of casualties is so large because there were no emergency doors or extra stairways in the factory,” Ihtesham Uddin, the Chief Fire Officer has told reporters.

The fire which has occurred last evening is yet to be controlled completely, says news reports reaching from Pakistan.

According to Tariq Kamal Ayubi, the bodies has began coming in at 7:30 p.m. last evening and are still being brought in.

Media reports say, that the death toll could rise to 100 owing to this fire, as nearly 1000 has been inside the factory at the time of the incident.

The fire has occurred owing to a electrical defect that has occurred when the factory employees started to operate a power generator.

Media reports say, the owner of the factory has fled.

Meanwhile a fire also has erupted in a shoe factory in the city of Lahore yesterday which has killed nearly 25 persons.
