Patriotic University Teachers express their protests

Sep 16, 2012 12:47:50 PM - itnnews.lk

The Association of Patriotic University Teachers has said that the students should not be used in winning the teachers demands.

At a media briefing held in Colombo by the convener of the Association Nemsiri Jayatillake said that this is a fact that the lecturers should understand.
He said that already more than 5% is spent on education. The standard of education is satisfactory in the country. Even in China only 2 percent of the GDP is spent on education. The Australian government is spending only 4 percent. The Inter University Student Union is now involved in the strike. He said that it is better to increase the allocations although the revenue of the government has to be taken into consideration. He said that he was very disappointed in university teachers who refused to mark the A Level question papers. He stressed that the University Teachers do not have the right to make these demands.
He said that therefore the Association is of the view that there has to be a certain force behind the strike staged by the university teachers.
