Sri Lanka lose to South Africa in the rain reduced T20 game
South Africa defeated Sri Lanka in the rain reduced World T20 match played last night to enter the super eight stages as the top team of the Group “C”.
The match played at Hambantota was reduced to 7 overs due to bad weather and the game which was scheduled to start at 4 pm only commenced at 6 pm.
South Africans who batted first posted 78 runs from 7 overs for the loss of seven wickets while the Lankan unit struggled to reach the score and was only able to put on 46 runs from 7 overs .
They lost 6 wickets in the process.
Sri Lankans were in bad shape from the first over itself as T.M. Dilshan was out for bad running without scoring while Skipper Jayawardena too struggled to take on the firing South African bowlers to task.
Jayawardena was out for 4 runs made in six balls.
Fall of the second wicket saw the home team sending Kumar Sangakkara but it would have been a wise decision if they have sent big hitter Thisara Perera to the crease as the Lankans was in need of 71 runs from 30 deliveries.
Sangakkara and Munaweera tried to repair the innings but was not successful as both struggled to get the ball rolling.
Sangakkara and Dilshan Munaweera scored 13 runs each to become the top scorers for the Lankans.
For South Africa AB De Villiers made a quick fire 30 from just 15 balls while Hashim Amla made 15 runs from 9 balls.
Dale Steyn captured two wickets by giving away just 10 runs in his two overs.
