Ahmadinejad promises debate on Syrian crisis as he departs for UN
Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left Tehran to attend his last UN General Assembly, highlighting Syria’s civil war as a priority for his visit. The 18-month Syrian conflict has escalated to a civil war which has killed more than 23,000 people, according to activists. He said that meetings will be held with members of the Nonaligned Movement regarding the reforms in the UN structure. Ahmadinejad will make his last general assembly address as president as he must step aside because of Presidential term limits.
