Winds in Batticaloa damage houses

Strong winds have lashed Batticaloa. The calamity which was experienced yesterday had damaged several houses

Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili said that the strong winds that swept across the Porathivu area in Batticaloa had partially damaged 94 houses. He said that the District Disaster Management Unit has been deployed to the area.
The Assistant Director referred to a minor tremor which was experienced in the Siyambalanduwa area this morning. This has been confirmed by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau. However, no damage has been reported.
Meanwhile, he also referred to a fire which had broken out in the Walapone area. Measures were afoot to quell it. Mr. Kodippili noted that the District Disaster Management Units are ascertaining all these calamities to ensure the security of the people.
