Government makes cash donations for funerals of University students

The Higher Education Minister has said that political groups emboldening students to external activities should stop leading innocent lives to death. Minister S.B. Dissanayake has made this comment condoling the death of two University students.

Minister Dissanayake expressed concern over the death of these students while they were supporting the Trade Union action of University academics with the knowledge and compulsion of the Inter University Students Federation. In a statement, he said that the factions concerned should assume the responsibility of depriving the country of two young lives by using them on behalf of political mileage.
In the meantime the Government makes cash donations for the conduct of funerals of the two students. The body of Priyankara de Silva of the Ruhuna University is lying at his residence at Mutwal in Colombo 15. Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie handed over a cash donation to family members.
The remains of Janaka Bandara of the Kelaniya Univesity is lying at his residence at Naula in Matale. Deputy Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake who visited the house to pay his last respects assured a cash donation through the Ministry of Higher Education.
