Foreign diplomats will be briefed on proscribed LTTE Front organizations
Foreign diplomats are to be apprised of the proscription of 16 LTTE frontline organizations.
The External Affairs Ministry plans to educate the foreign diplomats regarding the proscription of these LTTE frontline organizations including the British Tamil Forum. Accordingly External Affairs Minister G.L. Pieris and a group of Defence Ministry officials will conduct the awareness campaign next Tuesday.
A Ministry spokesman said that foreign ambassadors, High Commissioners, Consul Generals and other foreign diplomatic officials have been invited for the program. He pointed out that the program conductors will highlight the structure and operations of banned LTTE entities during sessions on Tuesday.
The Government decided on the 1st of April to proscribe 16 LTTE entities which are operating abroad with the intention of setting up of a separate state in Sri Lanka.
The ban has been imposed under a resolution passed in the United Nations in 2001, and legal action can be taken against those who aid and abet these banned organizations.
