We’ll find part time jobs for University students – SB
University students would be found opportunities to do part time jobs to earn an extra income as the Mahapola’ scholarship allowances they are given at present are not sufficient during their studies says the Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayaka.
Speaking at a ceremony held in Kandy Minister S.B. Dissanayaka said university students engaging in part time jobs for a few hours daily to earn an extra income is suitable for their education. He said such a programme for university students is being already discussed and would be implemented with the budget for next year. He further says university students should not come out of the universities as destitute persons.
Minister S.B. Dissanayaka’s statement indicates that allocations for education would be further slashed from the budget the government would present to the country in 2015 say analysts.
They point out the present government has been slashing allocations for education in every budget. However, university teachers and other intellectuals have demanded the government to allocate 6% of GNP for education. They say they are prepared to struggle to achieve this goal stating the government’s policy of reducing allocations for education and thereby destroying free education in the country is to have a generation of stooges who would sing hosannas for vile agendas of the government.
