Riders from the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Dubai chapter, Harley-Davidson’s official riding club in Dubai, roared along some of the country’s most iconic roads as part of their second tour of our paradise isle recently.
Powered by Wild Elephant, the popular high-power beverage from Sri Lanka’s most loved beverage brand Elephant House, who pitched in as the official beverage sponsor, the riders from Dubai joined a group of Sri Lankan motorcycling enthusiasts on a ride around the island. Organised by the Motor Racing Association and the BlueWater Consortium for the second consecutive year the group kicked off their tour – ‘Harley Davidson Street Thunder Sri Lanka 2014’ from Colombo on 9 August to reach Kandy. Riding along in their Wild Elephant gear they travelled from Kandy to the Sacred City of Anuradhapura before moving on to Habarana for the night in the second leg of their journey.
Commenting on the Harley tour partnership, Ceylon Cold Stores Head of Beverages and Vice President John Keells Holdings Daminda Gamlath said, “We’ve partnered with them yet again as we see a strong connect between the active lifestyle that Wild Elephant has come to embody and the Harley riders’ spirit of adventure. As a home grown brand, we are excited to extend a warm welcome to the touring Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Dubai chapter members and are proud to showcase the sights and sounds that our emerald isle has to offer.”
From Habarana, they rode past the scenic hills of Matale and Nuwaraeliya, proceeding to Ramboda Falls stopping at a tea plantation and spice garden en route. Zipping past Gampola the next morning, they got their adrenaline pumping after rafting over the rapids of the KelaniRiver in Kithulagala before camping for the night in Udawalawe. They then charged along to Hikkaduwa after a morning safari in the Udawalawe National Park. Soaking in the history at the World Heritage City of Galle, they adavaced towards Bentota stopping to marvel at fishermen perched on stilts in the ocean. On the last leg of their nine day long journey, they moved to  Mount Lavinia where the event organisers threw a Harley Davidson beach party.
“As Sri Lanka’s most loved beverage brand, we at Elephant House are delighted to partner with this tour that will offer the riders a glimpse of the varied facets of our charming island. Winning the crowds with the roar of their massive engines, they were in awe of Sri Lanka’s abundant natural beauty and cultural heritage,” said Ceylon Cold Stores PLC Head of Marketing for Beverages and Assistant Vice President of John Keells Holdings PLC NiranjanPalipane.
