  • One of Sri Lanka’s most recognised apparel factories cements its environmental sustainability credentials

Already recognised as a leading proponent of environmental sustainability, Bodyline Ltd., one of Sri Lanka’s best known apparel companies marked World Environment Day by announcing the international CarbonNeutral certification for one of its factories.

With three factories in Sri Lanka, Bodyline Ltd. was certified as the country’s first CarbonConscious Company and now brings to fruition a dream of having ‘CarbonNeutral Operations’ in Bodyline 3 factory which is located in Pimbura, surrounded by an invigorating green luxury.
The company achieved this status through The Carbon Consulting Company the leading local provider of corporate sustainability solutions and The CarbonNeutral Company of the UK which has established its reputation as a world leading provider of carbon reduction solutions and has won Environmental Finance’s Best Offset Retailer award for the third year running.
Speaking on the occasion, The Carbon Consulting Company CEO Sanith de S. Wijeyeratne said, “The increasing impact of Climate Change on the global marketplace is now making itself felt beyond any dispute. More and more countries and global companies are not only trying to reduce emissions, but are adopting mechanisms to offset the impacts of unavoidable emissions. TheCarbonNeutral certification from The CarbonNeutral Company is an internationally accepted recognition of the complete offset by an organisational entity of the sum total of all its relevant greenhouse gas emissions.
“Taking this monumental step is direct result of the Green Vision around which Bodyline carries out its operations and is a very significant credit to the company and its management. CCC is proud to have culminated a three year working relationship working with Bodyline to measure and mitigate its emissions by this remarkable milestone.”
Bodyline has independently calculated and verified its Greenhouse Gas emissions over a continuous period of three years with CCC and has successfully implemented a ‘Green Team’ charged with a mission of managing and mitigating this impact. The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) assessment was carried out in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol – Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.
The assessment took into account data on fuel consumption, electricity consumption and material consumption as well as direct emissions released from sources that are owned or controlled by the company, indirect emissions associated from purchased electricity and other sources including business travel, employee commuting and third party deliveries.
Speaking on the occasion Bodyline CEO Dilan Gooneratne said, “MAS is committed to drive sustainable practices and to balance People – Planet – Profit to create a better tomorrow for future generations. At Bodyline, sustainability has been a key focus area embedded in all strategic decisions. Bodyline being recognised as the first organisation to receive Carbon Conscious certification, Bodyline plant 3 being certified as having carbon neutral operations are key milestones in our sustainability journey. We continue to strive for a sustainable business model to enable us deliver a better tomorrow for our employees and community.”
Since its incorporation three years ago, CCC has been at the forefront of promoting corporate sustainability solutions in the local marketplace, helping many Sri Lankan corporates across diverse sectors to achieve regionally significant sustainability milestones.
CCC is the regional partner of the CarbonNeutral Company, one of the world’s  leading providers of carbon reduction solutions and offers the internationally recognised CarbonNeutral Certification. It is also the official Sri Lankan partner for the International Water Footprint Network, and has pioneered the concept of Water Footprinting in the country.
