The national mobile service provider Mobitel, via the mCash service recently entered into a new partnership with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to allow its customers the convenience of paying their CEB bills through their mobile phones.
Mobitel customers could settle their CEB bills through mCash by a simple press of a keypad. Customers could pay their electricity bills in the comfort of their homes in a convenient and innovative method of making financial transactions, which avoids the hassle of travelling to settle a CEB bill. The CEB, consisting of a base of 5.3 million customers and a network of 7,185 payment points in the country, expects to increase payment locations by 6,000 additional outlets coinciding the launch of the mCash facility.

Mobitel mCash was launched in November 2013 and was licensed under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. mCash has expanded its reach through payment points through Mobitel branches and mCash retailer outlets countrywide providing customers a convenient and efficient method to make their CEB bill payments.
Furthermore, mCash customers could also maintain their account to deposit, withdraw or transfer money, pay for goods and services in addition to settling utility bills and insurance premiums. Utility bill payments could be made via mCash retailers, Mobitel branches and/or through the customers own mCash account.
