Kavindika and Gunatilake shine at Age Group Badminton Championships

Richmond College Galle schoolboy D. Gunatilake was outstanding at the Age Group Badminton Championship, organised by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association and worked off at the Jayatilaka Sports Complex in Nawalapitiya.
Over 500 paddlers from schools around the country participated at the event. Gunatilake also won the boys’ Under 19 singles and doubles, partnering Ranaweera. In the girls’ segment Kavindika de Silva clinched a double when she won the Under 19 singles and doubles as well.

Under 15 girls’ singles: Hasiri Ambalangodage beat Dilmi Dias 21/19, 17/21, 21/18
Under 15 boys’ doubles: Chamath Kavindu Dias and C. Illeperumarachchi beat T. Gonapinwala and V. Pathirana 21/19, 21/10
Under 15 girls’ doubles: G. Abeyratne and Aasiri Ambalangodage beat N. Ratnayake and T Ratnayake 24/22, 21/8
Under 17 boys’ singles: R. Karunatillake beat R. Ridma 21/19, 21/19
Under 17 girls’ singles: N. Theshani beat Kalani Pramodaya 21/15, 21/14
Under 17 boys’ doubles: S. Hasaranga and R. Ridma beat R Bawanya and Malith Tennakoon 21/7, 21/19
Under 17 girls’ doubles: Buthmi Galagamage and Inuri Kuruppu beat Dinushi Gunasekera and Nayanathara Theshani 24/22, 21/18
Under 19 boys’ singles: D Gunatilleke beat Mahen Anjana 21/14, 21/13
Under 19 girls’ singles: Kavindika de Silva beat Madhushika Dilrukshi 26/24, 21/18
Under 19 boys’ doubles: D Gunatillake and P. Ranaweera beat Mahen Anjana and Gunatilleke 21/12, 21/14
Under 19 girls’ doubles: Yasmitha Dayaratne and Kavindika de Silva beat S. Athukorale and Lakimi Shashibhani 21/4, 21/12.
