Agreement between Ven Rathana & Ven Sobitha on a constitutional change
Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero and Athuraliye Rathana Thero reached an agreement during the discussions held yesterday (23) to reach a common programme into pressuring the government towards making a constitutional change before the coming Presidential election.
These discussions were held between the National Movement For Social Justice, led by Maduluwawe Sobitha thero, and the representatives of the ‘Pivithuru Hetak’ National Movement led by Athuraliye Rathana thero.
At the end of the discussions, Athuraliye Rathana thero told the media that they mainly discussed about reaching a consensus about changing the constitution and regarding the executive presidency. They have also discussed creating a common programme based on Sobitha thero’s stance of a complete abolition of the executive presidency, and Rathana thero’s stance of amending it.
