CDS Declares Open Joint War Gaming Center At Sapugaskanda

General Jagath Jayasuriya, the Chief of Defence Staff declared open state of the art Joint War Gaming Center at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sapugaskanda on Thursday morning (30 October).

Construction of the Joint War Gaming Center which was a long felt need for the apex military training establishment in the country, commenced under the direction of the Secretary Defence and Urban Development in 2011. The War Gaming Center consists of six syndicate rooms, two state of the art auditoriums, two model rooms and an office complex for directing staff. The new facility would provide the opportunity for the student officers of the tri services to test the theories of warfare that they learn and refine their plans by war gaming in a better training environment.

 

After the ceremonial opening of the facility, the Chief of Defence Staff and other distinguished took a tour in the new facility and witnessed the "Exercise Purple Turtle", a joint war game played by the student officers.

 

The current course, DSCSC No 8, consists of 101 middle grade officers from Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force, 01 officer from the Sri Lankan Administrative Service and 16 international officers from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Rwanda, Senegal and Vietnam.

 

The Commander of the Army, Commandant DSCSC, senior officers of the tri services and the Ministry of Defence and many other distinguished guests were present at the opening ceremony.(MoD/KH)
