The Sri Lanka Embassy in Israel celebrated the 67th National Day of Sri Lanka on 4 February at the Embassy premises in Tel Aviv. The event was organised by the Embassy with the participation of Ambassadors, Honorary Consuls, professionals and business community representatives of Israel and the Sri Lankan community.

The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Sarath Wijesinghe followed by the singing of the National Anthem and lighting of the traditional oil lamp to the accompaniment of the drumming of ‘Magul Bera’. After the religious observances were conducted by a Buddhist monk, a Catholic priest and a Jewish Rabbi, the messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka were read.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Wijesinghe stated that the new government of Sri Lanka has resolved to accommodate the followers of different religions, political views, civil organisations, and bring various groups onto one platform, shedding all differences to achieve a common objective for the benefit of the nation.
The ceremony concluded with a reception hosted by the Ambassador.
