Batti woman jailed for 02 yrs for engraving on Sigiriya wall
A woman who was charged with causing damage to the Mirror Wall at Sigiriya was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by Dambulla Magistrate Sanjeewa Ramyakumara yesterday.
The woman, a resident of Batticaloa, had visited Sigiriya along with some friends and scribbled her name on the Mirror Wall using a hairpin.
Police said Archaeological Department officials had apprehended her as she was writing her name (Udaya), in English, on the wall and had
had handed her over to the Sigiriya Police. The Archaeological Department had reported that the damage could not be repaired.
