Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) continued to be the flagship bearer to apart from cricket to giving a helping hand to sportsmen and women who have excelled in other sports as well. This was manifested at Friday’s felicitation ceremony held at Colombo’s Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe to honour the Sri Lanka T20 Cricket team which won the Asia Cup where SLC’s magnanimous President Shammi Silva and his executive committee saw to it that the Sri Lankan netball team which emerged Asian Netball Champions by defeating Singapore in the final was rewarded by way of Rs.2 million for each player. Besides SLC made a handsome USD 500,000 donation to President Wickremesinghe for the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.

Sri Lanka Cricket’s remarkable gesture in roundly encouraging other sports to go up the ladder and assisting the sick has been made possible due to the tremendous development drive forged by the administration under the dynamic leadership of its President Shammi Silva in making the cricket board a Rs.30 million profit making entity that was once in a financial mess in 2017. From that point it was resurrected by Thilanga Sumathipala and subsequently the current administration.

The Commonwealth Games athletes too received handsome donations in recognition of their victorious performances.
