The yearend cricket of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Clubs 50-Overs Tournament was highlighted by NCC and and Army SC recording wins against BRC and Chilaw Marians CC respectively, while the brilliant century by SSCs Skipper Nipun Dhananjaya against Panadura SC, in a continued reminder to the national selectors for recognition for national duty, highlighted Saturday’s proceedings with four other games ending in no decisions.

NCC crushed BRC by 8 wickets reaching 157 for 2 in just 17 overs in overhauling BRCs 153 off 41.1 overs following a rollicking first wicket partnership of 85 runs between skipper Lhiru Udara 55 off 39 with 9 boundaries and a six and wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella 48 who has been nudging the selectors of his versatility in the one-day format for a big time recall best exemplified by his cameo innings yesterday off only 24 deliveries decked with 9 boundaries and a six.

The 23-year old Nipun Dhananjaya’s undefeated 103 off 122 balls in the left-hand mould was showcased by the stroke play of  13 boundaries in a SSC total of 237  in a rain marred game with Panadura SC replying with 67 for 1 when the rains came down at the SSC Grounds.

Army SC’s 7-wicket win over Chilaw Marians CC in reaching 144 for 3 off 32.4 overs in overhauling their opponents 143 off 40.3 overs revolved around Dinesh Chandimal’s fine 61 off 75 inclusive of 6 boundaries and a six while Asela Gunaratne remained unbeaten on 35 after Rashmika Siriwardhana’s 3 for 35 set up the victory.
